Your choices and the choices of those around you are both important
It is easy to see how your choices directly affect your life - but the choices of loved ones, business associates and others also affect you. Even the actions of governments and big business are individuals making choices and decisions that can affect a great, great many people.
If someone close to you is behaving in a way to violate your concept of what is right, i.e. your code of conduct, then you will be unhappy. The closer someone is to you, the bigger the effect will be on you -- either happy or unhappy. A close friend, family member or spouse that violates your code can cause you to experience great pain.
Even the actions of people that you are not close to can adversely affect you. The growing lack of honesty, the lack of respect and the lack of tolerance makes even everyday life more and more difficult.
Even worse, we now live in a world of war, terrorism and weapons of mass destruction where there will never be enough laws, police or military force to ensure peace and security.
